Leslie Thornton, President
► 26 years of meetings industry experience; joined SmithBucklin in 2003.
► Directs a team of 40 staff members including conference and event planners, support technicians and Courtesy Travel Service agents, and is responsible for the day-to-day management of Courtesy, including oversight of financials, operations, strategic management and consulting teams.
► Leads Courtesy's new business development and strategic account teams, focusing on providing strategic management and direction for all Courtesy clients, including strengthening relationships with current clients; developing revenue growth opportunities with existing clients; and creating new business opportunities through relationships with current clients.
► Since 2004, Leslie has managed Courtesy's contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including Courtesy's involvement with three national level exercises focused on terrorist and emergency preparedness; and previously managed Courtesy's current U.S. Department of Energy contract, with oversight of 10-14 meetings per year within the Energy Efficient and Renewable Energy division.
► Previous experience includes 10 years with an association management company, two years developing a certification program for the transportation industry and three years with a national presidential campaign, national political convention and a presidential inauguration.
► Serves on the Travel Portland Customer Advisory Board and is a member of the Greater Washington Board of Trade and the Economic Club of Washington, D.C.
► Holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Colorado Boulder.
